Being a Marine...
Being a Marine is hard.
Being a Marine requires honor.
Being a Marine is a privilege.
Being a Marine is earned.
Being a Marine is hard core.
Being a Marine is an honor.
Being a Marine requires courage.
Being a Marine is for life.

Being a Marine requires putting your country first
Being a Marine means putting other Marines before yourself
Being a Marine is a way of life
Being a Marine is NOT easy

I work with a small herd of folks, 25 to 50, at a time. It is very easy to "pick out" the true professionals, those have served their country, Marines, SEALS, Rangers, and Air Force. Each has everyone's back.

Being a Marine....deserves respect!
.....deserves our thanks!
.....is forever!
.....requires the support of family!
.....deserves financial reward, instead of the 'can barely get by on this salary' !
.....requires a quality character!

You might be IN the Army, IN the Navy, IN the Air Force but you ARE a Marine. I think Leroy Jethro Gibbs said it best "The Marine Corps isn't a religion, it's a faith."

I love that line. It's something you can never take away or tear out of us.

First off, I mean no disrespect to Marines or am I trying to diminish who and what they are.

I have a nephew that is a Marine, and had a very good friend (more like a second grandfather to me) that was a career Force Recon Marine (god speed Dale), an uncle and nephew who take great pride in their Navy service, and friends that are Marines and members of other services (except Coast Guard, I have never met someone who was in the Coast Guard).

Thinking about this topic last night, I realized that you could apply all of these sentiments to other groups as well as Marines.

Just replace the word Marine in any of the above statements with any of these groups and you will (hopefully) see what I mean:
Professional Soldier (of any Armed Services branch)
Warrior (any Special Operations member)
Patriot
True Friend (not just someone you know, but someone you love
as a brother or sister)
True American (not in nationality only, but in actions & attitude)

I think key to message we should take from this is that the attitude and attributes that are thought of when we think of a Marine are the attitude and attributes that we should all aspire to in our daily lives and actions.

Remember that it is not the uniform or the title that defines a person, but rather, their actions in their daily lives that show who they really are at their core.

Eric, Very true. It's just that as Marines we tend to talk about it a little more. We love our propaganda :)
Thanks for your thoughts. I pray that more people start thinking like you.

Being a Marine is ...
...being a hero.
...being a Marine, every day, in every way.

Yes, we should aspire to the attitudes and attributes of our Marines every day in every way. We may aspire to be like them, but they are them. It is a way of life.
